Blue handprint

On my one work day of unemployment (new job starts on Monday) Mike and I went across the border to the Excited States of America to a dreamy state park called Deception Pass. Wow. There’s a bridge you need to cross to get to the beaches below. We stopped to walk cross it (and go underneath it. This hand print is on the underside of the bridge). This is ABOVE it:

A farewell dinner

My buddies at work (AKA as my Sister Wives) organized a farewell dinner for me tonight. We went to The Italian Kitchen for dinner and guess who joined us? Vancouver Fashion Designer, Jason Matlo. SQUEEE! It was a lovely visit and it turns out his studio is right next door to where my new office will be. Hooray! I will be in his Gastown neighbourhood – which is only a few blocks from VCAD. I learned tonight there are a bunch of cool restaurants in that area and I will be visiting several of them in the near future. I really am on a new adventure! How an area only 5 or 6 blocks away from where I have been working for the last 3 years can be filled with such mysteries is beyond me. I will uncover them all.

It really was a fun night and I’m going to miss my old work pals.

Really miss them.

Tomorrow I will be resting and with any luck, seeing Mad Max again. So much WAR Boys! I’ve also got a full weekend of telethoning and a visit to a cheese place out in Maple Ridge. Speaking of cheese, I tasted some of the finest cheese in the world tonight. It’s called Burrata. It is the most beautiful cheese I have ever tasted – a mixture of mozzarella and whipping cream. If they sell it there, I will be buying it to eat with some sliced tomatoes.

HEAVEN.

Buffalo Bill & Sitting Bull

A couple of years ago, I found this framed print abandoned in amongst piles and piles of discarded office stuff in the building where I work. We were hosting a portfolio show in the “empty” space and we had to move a few things and shut a few doors before the guests came to peruse the graduates’ work. Late that night, after everyone had gone home, I spotted it and decided it didn’t count as stealing if it stayed in the same building, and I just moved it to a different floor. I grabbed it and hung it up in the Student Services/Career Services room. When I first started in that room, it was just two of us (me and Mimi), but gradually we built up to 5 people working in there. All of us enjoyed this photo and agreed it was definitely a good representation of the Fashion Design program. Beautiful menswear!  And Buffalo Bill even had embroidery on his sleeves. Incredible.

Today, when the Campus Director told me I could take it home, I jumped at the chance! Hooray! I have the perfect spot for it in our dining room. I hung it up tonight. Here it is in our house!

Side note: Mike is not as excited as I am about this new acquisition.

Do not touch these.

I can’t remember what this sign was for. Don’t touch the seats maybe? I don’t know. Why would I take this photo? No idea, but the words are tack sharp, so BONUS!

I just put the finishing touches on the photos I took at a play a couple of weeks ago. Whoa. That took some time to pull together. Yikes! But I did take a lot of photos (over 1000) and I whittled it down to about 300. Hooray! I really like how they turned out and I hope the people in the play do, too.

One of my favourite photos I’ve ever taken was in the pile of photos. It’s this one:

Vancouver buildings

May 25, 2015

The past few days have been sunny and warm and just like summer. We were wearing shorts and no sleeves and running fans in the house. However, upon awakening today, it was rainy and cold. NO! I had bare legs today in hopes of sunny, happy weather. I quickly snapped out of the disappointment because […]

Where am I supposed to work and stuff?

May 24, 2015

Mike had to work at the crack of dawn this morning. He had to be at work at 7 am. EW. I guess people need help with their cable and internets at that time of the day on a Sunday. Also EW. Who’s up at this time on a Sunday with TV problems? It’s a […]

You’re simply the best!

May 23, 2015

Whoa. I’d better lay off the filters on the photos for awhile. I’ve done 3 in a row. What can I say? Sometimes I just get carried away. The roses in the garden are nearly open. Only a couple of days and we should have full yellowy-pink blooms. We also have tiny red roses and […]

Having not fallen off the turnip truck

Mike and I shot an event tonight – which was awesome – it was the DigiBC event celebrating the top tech employers in the Lower Mainland. This took place at Science World. So glorious. There were lots of dinosaur bones around Science World. We even found one that looked like a cat! And, it completely […]

Saying Farewell!

May 21, 2015

Worky work was long tonight – we had a PAC meeting (Program Advisory Committee) with some employers. It went well, so that’s good. After that, I hopped on the bus and went to Alysia’s farewell party on Davie Street. It was a lovely visit and now she’s off to become a Scuba Diving Instructor. DREAMY. […]

You never know who you’ll meet.

May 20, 2015

Tomorrow night we’re going to a farewell dinner for our friend Alysia. She’s off to Bali to become a scuba dive instructor. And in a weird way, we helped her get there. Here’s how it happened. 1) In about 2008, I went to a tweet up in Vancouver. I met Robert Scales there and a […]
