Fixing it.

The dreaded seam ripper

Today was spent doing errands, laundry, and test driving a car that we may or may not be trading in our old car for (which is very sad and very noisy at this point. Some kind of belt needs to be tightened or replaced, and so do the brakes. It’s so loud when we drive it, we’ve started calling it, “The Opera Car” because it’s singing to us to, “Please! Fix! Me!). Not nearly as much fun as yesterday was. No candy! No lemon donuts! No sewing and reading modern block quilt books.

However, we did watch several episodes of House of Cards. And that was put on hold only long enough to made some dinner and then watch the Walking Dead. I predict we’ll be watching at least one more episode of HoC before bed.

I will not spoil anything, just know that Kevin Spacey is an excellent bad guy. So is Robin Wright.

This made today the perfect day to fix the binding on my quilt. The bottom corners were very tight and curled and since I have the time to fix it, I will do it. I spent a surprisingly short time picking out the seams around the edges and will make a new border this week.

I’ll get the corners right this time – I didn’t sew them right in the first place, I’m certain of that now.

Debbie and her Nan's Quilt

Debbie and Her Nan’s Quilt

I got the new Amy Poehler book for Christmas and this is by far my favourite quote:

“You do it because the doing of it is the thing. The doing is the thing. The talking and worrying and thinking is not the thing.”
― Amy PoehlerYes Please

So, today? We did the thing. It was such a fun day. And the thing we did? Sewed scrappy quilt blocks.  We sewed and learned how to sew and then sewed a bit more.

We even had show and tell.

Spooky owls! WHO?

Our local Sally Ann sometimes has the coolest (and wierdest) stuff. And it’s open late – 9 pm during the week. It works out well for my schedule. Clearly.

Yesterday I found these two glass owls for $4 each (I think. Yup. $4 each). They are actually bottles. Their heads come off!

And sewing and sewing and sewing…

February 24, 2015

I could not bring myself to sew diagonal (or straight) lines through the kitties’ faces, so I opted to do plain old straight stitching all around the outside of the cats. Even though I put a border on this mini-quilt, I’m going to quilt straight lines right into it. Oh yes I am!

The green dumpster

February 23, 2015

This is another photo from the 3 hour tour of  a photo walk from Saturday. I’m not sure why I like this photo. There’s garbage in it! I think it’s just the colours – red & green. You don’t see that too often in a dreary old alley way. For some reason, I also like […]

Counting the sheep

February 22, 2015

Yesterday afternoon before the Maria Bamford show, Mike and I wandered around Granville Street and the surrounding areas. After following the drum beats to Holt Renfrew to see the Lion Dancers, we headed a couple of blocks over the Vancouver Art Gallery and found about a billion little sheep covering the grassy area of the […]

The Lion Dance

February 22, 2015

After work today – Yup. It happens sometimes. We work the occasional weekends – it’s okay. It worked out well because Mike had to work, too. We met up and headed out on a very long photowalk up Granville Street. We were only about half a block into the walk when I heard the loud […]

Happy Year of the Goat or Sheep or Ram*

February 19, 2015

I forgot I had this teensy sheep in my china cabinet. This little guy was picked up many moons ago at a store we used to frequent in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The shop was nick named, “The Waterford Crystal & LEGO Store” because, well, that’s what they sold. Something for everyone! That was a good […]

Happy Chinese New Year Eve

February 18, 2015

Today is Chinese New Year’s Eve. I did as much cleaning as I could muster and took out all the garbages. I think that’s one of the most important things to do. I really should have dusted the TVs because WHOA. Hopefully the Chinese New Year spirits will turn a blind eye to that. Added […]
