I am ready for it. I’m not sure why I’m in such a hurry for these days off, but I just am. Maybe it’s the pie and cake I’ll be baking. Pretty sure that’s amping up my eagerness for the weekend. And the sewing. I just don’t get to sew during the week very often, so I get itchy to sew up squares.

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about since I took this photo yesterday on the street. What does this mean?

A quick google search revealed it’s a line from a poem by a local poet named John Alan Douglas.

Here’s the whole poem:

Postcard Poem #1

by John Alan Douglas

This poem has amber wings

like olden postcards

no postage stamp

only my open heart

it flies to any readers

upon the fickle wind

and hopefully nests

in their avian souls.

Mystery solved.

And I like the choice of colours for the lettering.

Very nice!

Finish the roll of flim already

I realized today I have a few projects on the go. Time to write up the list.

1) Finish this roll of film. I’ve only got 4 or 5 photos left. I just haven’t found the exact right subject to take photos of for some reason. I have to take a few things into consideration – it has to be a sunny day and it has to be taken outside. The ISO of the film is 200, so an indoor photo won’t work very well. Maybe tomorrow I’ll find it? We shall see. Looks like the long weekend will be sunny, so maybe I’ll find it then.

2) Make a peach pie on Faturday. I found this recipe and it looks like I can make it easily. I should probably make 2 small pies so I can freeze one for NEXT Faturday. I’ll just use my grandma’s pie pastry recipe. EASY!

3) Work on my Quilt As You Go quilt. That’s going to take longer than I expected.

This has started a chain reaction

Yesterday I hit the jackpot when I found this delightful dress FULL of skulls and guns. Guns? Yup. It’s in the pattern where you’d expect the cross bones to be under the skulls’ jaws. I was pretty sure I was never going to take it off, and I have to tell you that putting on my plain old khakis and my $8 blouse from Kohl’s was a bit of a lunch-bag letdown. But I will always love you Kohl’s! I found my pink flamingo skirt there. ANYWAY…

My very sophisticated coworker, Asta, from Lithuania, invited me today to go to Holt Renfrew to try on lipsticks on our lunch break. She is very fancy, wears beautiful European clothes and shoes and told me I should probably consider wearing some lipstick to go with my new dress. I can’t remember the last time I put on lipstick. Oh wait. Yes I do. Our wedding! 16 years ago. Wow.

We went across the street and Asta told me her favourite lipstick companies were Dior and something else (I can’t remember). I figured I’d might as well go big or go home, so we went to the Dior counter and had a very friendly saleslady show us a variety of light pink lipsticks that wouldn’t make me look like a clown or a crazy person – I imagined lipstick applied and then smeared across my face. Also, hysterical crying. THAT kind of lipstick is what I DON’T want.

You will be happy to know that I did make a selection! A light pink colour that looked quite natural and tiny bit sparkly in the light. Sadly, they were all out of stock, so the salesperson will be calling me when it comes in.

At this rate, if I’m not careful, my website could become a fashion blog.

What did you do this weekend?

I can't breatheToday at the office:

Coworker 1: What did I do this weekend? I went camping in Chilliwack!

Coworker 2: I went to a Buddhist Temple in Kamloops!

Coworker 3: I went to Kelowna and stayed in a B&B by the lake!

Coworker 4: I went to the race track!

Me: I sewed all day on Saturday and on Sunday I went with Mike & Alysia to the graveyard to take photos of her in a gas mask.

Who had the best weekend? These guys. JUST KIDDING! Please note: I selected this photo because the other ones showed a bit too much once I zoomed in. I know they are not in focus. You (and they) are welcome!

Graveyard Shenanigans

July 27, 2014

Mike, Alysia and I went to the graveyard today to make some photos. We were a little concerned that bringing balloons to the cemetery could be considered disrespectful, however, we came upon a couple of scantily clad individuals making out behind some bushes and figured we could always do a, “Don’t look over here! Look […]

The Three Ps

July 27, 2014

Pancakes, pizza and popsicles. That’s pretty much all I ate today. Oh Faturday, you are so delicious. Today’s menu reminded me of this illustration my friend, Jade, made for me on her last day at the office a couple of weeks ago. I put this little drawing in a frame near our front entrance. I […]

Dexter shoes

July 25, 2014

I found these shoes at a very cool store in Gastown today on my lunch break. I had originally gone to buy Mike a birthday present (which I did find a few doors down. YES!) and stumbled upon this store that sells sort of oldie time dresses made with fabrics that have skulls and bats […]

A tiny tin craft

July 23, 2014

While I was looking for some papery things to put on yesterday’s craft supplies, I stumbled on THIS little mint tin. I’m not quite sure where I got this from, but it is perfect for the craft I have in mind. I’ll use that other tin for something else. I don’t have to make any […]

The Yeowler

July 22, 2014

Must be 10 pm, Donner is READY for dinner. He hops up on the dishwasher and MEOWs and MEOWs with all his might and in all his gummy glory. I’m not sure if less teeth means an increase in volume in cat yelling. It would seem so. Sheesh. I have started a cool photo project, […]

Faux wet plate flowers

July 21, 2014

Some summertime flowers in Holland Park from yesterday. This is all I have for today. My brain is completely empty. EMPTY! I’ll try again tomorrow.
