The thrill of the hunt

SkateboarderI snapped this photo on the photowalk where we ended up shopping in thrift stores down by the water. And the only reason we walked up the street was to see if there were more thrift stores. What can I say? We’re hooked on reducing, recycling and reusing. Also, I think it’s the thrill of the hunt. Because not only did I find a $4 Halloween decoration in our travels (shown later), I found THIS sweater:

Tugboat

We celebrated Faturday in style today. We went out to iHop with our buddies, Chris & Tami, in New Westminster. The sun was shining (AGAIN! Some more!) and we went on a photowalk down by the water. Actually, what ended up happening was we got a little side-tracked by Antique Alley (I think it consists of 2 second hand stores and a military supply store. It’s a small alley, I guess.).

BUT, in one of the stores I spotted this in the window:

Sewing at night

Bunting

I think bunting is very 2012, but I am making Halloween bunting come hell or high water. I got about a dozen more pieces cut tonight, sewed 2 sides of each triangle and was able to start sewing the double bias binding down to the triangles. I am SO close to getting it done. I just had to leave it in my sewing machine to make a late night trip to the skytrain to pick up Mike.

SIDE NOTE: I have been using the walking foot on my sewing machine exclusively. It holds the fabric together great! No sliding or slippage! Very clever.

I will definitely get this done this weekend and will hang it high in the entrance in celebration of the spooky season. YES! And Doug will be adorned with the bunting as well.

This has been a short but productive week. Especially today.  On my way into work and as I left the skytrain and hopped on that really steep escalator, I had a huge urge to change the way my desk was arranged. This was quite the task as I share the space with 4 other people. So I disrupted their work, moved my desk and cleaned up the nooks and crannies. I also bought a plant because we have 1 tiny plant in our whole office. Now we have 1 tiny plant and 1 small plant in the office. Hooray for oxygen!

Tomorrow night I’ll be seeing a Vancouver International Film Festival movie with some pals from work. Yes! Weekend already. Faturday is right around the corner.

ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: Even though we had an extra cheat day this week for Thanksgiving, that day was not as exciting as Faturday. I think it’s because I really didn’t feel like I earned that cheat day. But once a week? It feels very satisfying. Pumpkin pancakes, here we come!

Making bunting. Step 1.

October 15, 2014

After I took care of more dishes, put on some dinner – leftover turkey casserole that ended up being more soupy than cassarole-y. So much for THAT experiment – and made the bed, I started making some Halloween bunting. And that’s as far as I got. I cut about a dozen triangles. And that’s it. […]

How to eat a turkey dinner

October 13, 2014

While the turkey is roasting in the oven, set the table with as many containers as possible that have lids on them. Also, have the squirt bottle nearby as to keep any cats off the table. Since we only set the table twice a year, the cats were curious as to what was happening.  Eventually […]

Bumps on a log

October 12, 2014

Mike & I went on the hunt for some fall foliage and tried a local park called, Green Timbers Urban Forest.  I think we were a little bit early because there wasn’t much as far as colourful leaves go. The park was really nice, though.

Made by pals

October 10, 2014

My feet were too sore and it was SO late when I got home last night (after 11:00) I took yesterday off from blogging. WHOA. A mid-week day off from the blog? Not usually how I roll, but last night I made the exception. And I didn’t take a single photo at the portfolio show, […]
