Other people’s art

August 25, 2011

I dropped by the Yaletown RoundHouse today after work to see the Papergirl art show. It’s a collection of pieces of art by all sorts of artists in Vancouver. I loved it. I walked around for about half an hour looking at all the pieces on the clothesline.

Don’t forget the Roller Girls

August 11, 2011

Roller Derby has made quite the comeback. I haven’t been to an official event recently, well, make that, ever, but I do remember one name from the oldie times of Roller Derby – Skinny Minnie Miller. I should go check out an updated version of this sport. It used to be WWE wrestling style on [...]

Carol Browne, Wedding Photographer?

August 11, 2011

Not that this photo has anything to do with weddings. I took this photo tonight, just a little bit after the Blue Hour. The sky was still a little bit blue, but only when I took the photo in a certain direction (?), angle (?), I’m not sure how that happened, but when I moved [...]

You know what this blog needs?

August 8, 2011

MORE FLEXING GLADIATORS! This is what you’ve all been waiting for! Oh wait…maybe it’s just me? Hairless dancing men? Some of them scantily clad? With bulging muscles? To thumping dance music? If you’re not into that sort of thing, I suggest you don’t scroll down any further. And depending where you are, you may want [...]

Picnic at the Park

August 7, 2011

Today we had a little picnic for the birthday girls in Mission. We had excellent summer weather again, and this big tree provided a perfect shady, breezy spot for us. It’s an interesting documentary about Ron Galella – a paparazzi who especially liked to take photos of Jackie Onassis. He [...]

Oh…I love a parade!

August 4, 2011

Man or a woman? My favourite of all the female impersonators are the ones that still look like men – the ones that are obviously men in dresses. I especially love a big, burly man in a dress. It reminds me of Monty Python. Kinda like these paraders:

Let’s hear it for the dogs!

August 3, 2011

Everyone was loud and proud at the Pride Parade last weekend, even the dogs! There was a whole section of dogs all dressed up and walking down the street with their owners. There was the big dog above in his/her feather boa and fairy wings AND painted toenails! There was a display of Pit Bull [...]

“Better Gay Than Grumpy”

August 2, 2011

Meanwhile, back at the Big Gay Pride Parade, this handsome man had a very good point! This sign could really help somebody.

The Big Gay Sails

July 27, 2011

I noticed last night when I picked up Mike from work that the Vancouver Convention Centre has lit up its sails in rainbow colours for the upcoming Gay Pride Parade. Just in case you’re not from these parts, Vancouver has a lively and enthusiastic gay community and I think this year, for the first time [...]
