Arts and Crafts night

I took it easy and had an arts and crafts night. Today was a tough one and pasting and stamping and painting papers is a good way to change my mood from “ARRRRR!” to “Ahhhh!”. It really works to take edge off.

I used these excellent old fashioned Halloween images I bought from My ARTistic Life back in the summer. I LOVE this style of Halloween art. And it looks like people used to send each other Halloween postcards in the early 1900′s…Some of the images I have those types of greetings. How polite and festive.

Speaking of festive, Mike put together a new website for us to record all kinds of cross cultural celebrations around the world. It’s called ladybugspicnic.com I’ll be posting there once or twice a week…I just found out today that there’s a celebration this weekend called Diwali…a beautiful Buddhist tradition about the triumph of good over evil. It’s a national holiday in India. And there are lanterns involved. I only found out about it today, so with any luck I may be able to find a traditional lantern tomorrow after work down in Little India. So many festivals in the fall…I think it’s my favourite season.

Very cool Halloween cards!! And yes- I have been seeing boxes of little red & gold candles everywhere out here for Diwali but I didn’t know what it was all about!

I love these Halloween cards! So awesome! And what a great way to turn a bad day good.

Also awesome? That you’re such a scholar of international festivals and holidays. I can’t wait to learn about all the celebrations I’ve been missing!

I want one of those cards

I’ve also been to a diwali festival of lights.
I believe its Hindu and part of the celebration is honouring the goddess Laxmi and filling ones house with lights and lanterns.
