Yesterday I spent some time painting this unbleached muslin with a mixture of black acrylic, assorted fabric paint in dark colours, and some stamps. After seeing the softies in Cloth, Paper, Scissors this month, I’m making my own. Since I am on a serious Oscar kick, I’m sticking with the kitty stuffie theme and am making Oscar dolls.

This is just the beginning of the dolls. I drew out a doll pattern, then took it to work and blew it up on the photocopier (Shhh!). Next is cutting out the pattern out of the muslin, doing some more embellishments and then sewing them up. And maybe doing some more decorating. Once I’ve got the patterns cut out, I can place the eyes and the collar. It’s going to be rag doll style, with frayed edges and funky decorations.
Since I’ve got tomorrow evening free, I’ll be doing some work on them then. While watching other hockey teams carry on in The Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s a sad day in Mudville right now. But we will push on, make dolls, and enjoy the summer.

Eeee! I can’t wait to see your Oscar doll!!
Ah, the dark theme will be easy right now, and perhaps cathartic. Through the darkness there is Joy. Push on. Oscar stuffies have to have a little of the joy of living Oscar has. ; )
