Sewing success!

After thoroughly doing my research on copyrights and quilt patterns, I think it’s totally cool to post the photo above as Theresa has posted the same pattern quite a few times on flickr. Hooray! [And that's the extent of my research.] Let’s just hope for the best on this one.

Anyway, I was hoping that I could somehow make this into a quilt-as-you-go quilt. I had heard a rumour that someone had created a quilt-as-you-go log cabin quilt. I will track down the set of videos that I remember seeing about all the different types of quilts you can quilt-as-you-go. Unfortunately, this is not one of those patterns because there are times when you sew this together the edges don’t meet (on purpose this time!) so you have to square off the edges after it’s all sewn together. DARN. However, I did it! It looks like a Christmas tree and everything. I incorporated the swirly fabric as the tree trunk (it’s the challenge for the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild this month) and since I have a bit of time before the meeting (shocking! I know! I’m ahead of schedule! What?) I have time to embellish the tree, give it some boarders and finish it. It’s supposed to be mug rug sized, so I’m going to turn it into a wall hanging. Happy Christmas!

I love making these trees – I’m sure there will be other Christmas tree items this year – now that I have all this time before Christmas.

It’s awesome, awesome, awesome! I’m so jealous that you’ve joined a modern quilt guild! There’s on in Philly, but that’s just a hair too far for me to go. I need a Maple Hoo Modern Quilt Guild. Heh. Anyway, I can’t wait to see where you go with this quilting thing! I bet Donner and Oscar are going to be thrilled, if they’re anything like the cats here — the minute there’s a bit of fabric out that’s going to be used for a quilt, they just have to sit on it.

EEEEE! This is SO cute! Congratulations! I really love the gold ornament background fabric — it’s so dreamy and Christmassy and perfect. You should be so pleased with your mad sewing skillz; this is just adorable!!

Thanks guys! I also love that gold, old fashioned Christmas decoration fabric. I want to make curtains for the living room with it. Ha! Mike would love that.

Yup, the kitties like to sit on the fabric – especially Donner. I turned around and he was sitting on the ironing board with his tail centimeters away from the iron. Sheesh. Just one more thing he can climb on.

The modern quilt guild is pretty sweet. It’s about an hour drive from where I live, but so far, it’s been very, very helpful. I’m making mug rugs and everything.
