The Mary Tyler Moore fabric

I spotted this fabric at Dressew earlier this week. But I walked away from it thinking it was a bit too retro – a little overboard in the tiki department. But I thought about it over and over throughout the week and decided on Friday to get some to make a table runner for the dining room. I sit there to write in the mornings and sometimes use my laptop there. A full tablecloth gets in the way and slides down, so I figured a runner would work just fine.

I’m glad I went back to pick it up. It’s very cute and it goes well with the tiki mug collection on the dining room wall.

And table runners are easy to whip up. I’m not finished yet, but I measured how much of the table I wanted covered, cut the fabric to size and since they had wide hemming tape on for a quarter a package, I bought a couple of packages to sew on the edges. Easy straight sewing. The part that takes the longest is the prep – the washing and the cutting and the pinning. Just like painting.
