This is one is more of an auditory experience.

I know it’s really spring when I can hear the frogs out in the back lane croaking and chirping away. I just love that sound. They started singing a couple of weeks ago now, and in the near future, they will go back to being quiet and unassuming. Even though it’s still chilly at night, when it’s not too cold, I leave the window open a tiny bit so I can hear the froggy choir singing in the dark.

Tonight I took Mike’s Flipvideo cam out in the back lane to record the frogs. His little video camera is great! There is editing software and a quick way to upload to youtube – all very easy to manoeuvre through. Unfortunately, there was little to see standing out in the back alley in the dark, so I added a nostalgia theme (i.e. scratchy brown film) so there was something going on while you listen for 9 whole seconds of frogs ribbiting.

This also reminds me of The Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland. Just throw in some fireflies and we’d be all set.

While the frogs were outside making all that noise, I was inside sewing my first Oscar doll with my painted fabric.

I’m pleased with my first Oscar doll. I stuck with that theory I heard about anime – if you make the eyes big and round and the rest of the facial features small, it makes the character look cute. I think next time I’ll stuff the doll a bit fuller and I’ll make him a little bit bigger. I used black fabric for the back, cut it a bit larger than the painted fabric and tried to fray it out around the entire doll. Next time I’ll have to cut it out even a bit bigger for better contrast.

See that little flower charm on his collar? It’s actually a little snap. I found a kit at the Dressew for putting these fancy snaps on fabric for 99 cents. And those little flower charms were only a quarter for 4. You can’t beat that at all.

I have lots more kitties to make as I painted quite a bit of fabric. It’s a fun and quick project once the paint has dried. It took me less than an hour to cut out the fabric, stuff him and sew him up. I could have even decorated him a bit more. I will for the next one.

I would be willing to buy a couple if you could make them out of Kevlar…

We must have enough rain if you have frogs in your back alley.
The catnip idea is a good one. We stuff a toy for our THOMAS and he goes nuts!
