Hope you had a good one! I made some sugar cookies last night (usually reserved for Christmas cookies only!) and was too lazy to decorate them properly. I ended up melting some chocolate chips and drizzling them over the finished baked hearts. Here’s my favourite sugar cookie recipe:
My Favourite Sugar Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
Sift together and add to mixture:
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
2 cups of flower
Blend into mixture:
1/2 tsp vanilla
Roll out and use your favourite cookie cutters. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
I bake them thick and soft (cooked only for 8 minutes) – they’re the best that way. All I did with the chocolate chips was: heat them up for 30 seconds at a time in a microwave dish until it’s a bowl of runny chocolate. Take a spoon and drizzle the runny chocolate over the cookies. Done and done. And I don’t even have a sample to show you because they are all gone.
I have demonstrated in the photo above the exact WRONG thing to do when baking cookies. You never mix shapes. For the best cookies, you bake all the same size and shape on one cookie sheet to ensure the best/most consistent results. I didn’t follow that advice, and I liked how the dough looked on the cookie sheet. The tiny hearts were a little crunchy, but still delicious.
