Juice shooters

This afternoon I broke out the good old juicer I picked out from the VISA point catalogue my mom so generously shared with me. I also had enough points to get a vegetable steamer. I do love my cooking machines. My sister and I would get alternate chances at the points, so I’m not sure what she ordered with her VISA points. Some kind of soccer equipment, I’m sure. Anyway, after reading ALL your good wishes (AWWW, thanks guys!) and suggestions on how to get better, I thought perhaps some freshly squeezed would be a good idea. Especially the ginger – that was mentioned twice in the comments – a good reminder. Ginger is delish and healthy and I always forget about using it.

I made juice for Mike as he now has the same lovely cold that I have. Darn it. Mike’s such a gentleman, he blamed public transit – possibly the Canada Line to Aberdeen Mall – so I’m totally off the hook. Mike is generally a traditionalist when it comes to fruit juices, so I made him some good old fashioned orange juice with a tiny bit of fresh ginger in it. I don’t think it was enough though, because he didn’t mention it at all. But for myself, I got a little fancier. I combined:

1 orange (peeled and cut into big chunks)
1 kiwi (skin and all)
1 piece of fresh ginger – about 1.5 inches long by .5 X .5 of an inch (width and height)

I’ve tried juicing the orange with the peel still on, but didn’t like it. It was too bitter. But I usually eat the skin of the kiwi for fibre (just like apple skin) but I think the majority of the skin did get filtered out by the juicer.

That was a great combination. The colour was a bit odd – light green – but there was just enough fresh ginger to taste it. The orange and kiwi together worked nicely. I think I’ll make another shooter before we go to bed – orange, carrot and apple. With ginger.

And another for breakfast.

With ginger.

Fresh ginger, lime & lemon should do it too. Especially good as a hot drink…will definitely clear up the sinus passages. Hope you and Mike get better soon!! xoxo
