“I sleep in a drawer”

It was a long time coming, but this weekend we finally had to replace the falling apart dresser in our bedroom with something that would stay together when I put my pajamas in the bottom drawer. Happily, we found a floor model, china buffet on sale that fit perfectly. I like it much better than the tall dresser we used to have.

Ready to put it in the garage/broken furniture graveyard, I stacked the two drawers against the wall to move later. Not long after that, there was a big crash. Donner had pushed them over and was sitting in one that landed flat. He loves sitting in empty boxes. Then I remembered seeing a dog bed made out of a suitcase on the internet somewhere and thought maybe Donner would like a cat bed in the drawer. The boys pretty much lost interest in the bed I made last year, so I just stuffed it in the drawer.

And Donner’s been sitting in it ever since. He sleeps in a drawer! Just like Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons!

Donner and Ralph are in good company. I know someone else who slept in a drawer – Mike Browne! His mom and dad put in the adoption papers and Mike arrived 3 weeks later! They weren’t quite ready for him, so…that night…sleepy time on the floor in a drawer. The perfect makeshift crib in a pinch.

I remember a story my first mother-in-law told me: seems her newborn son was in a drawer, and his older sister wanted to shut it when he cried.
