I wasn’t kidding.

in Family and Buddies, General, Photos

Just so we’re clear, I’m the one on the left. My Great Grandma Holly is the one with the key around her neck. This is exactly how I remember her looking in every photo I’ve seen of her – even when she was younger.

If you’d like to see me with an ostrich, you can, if you hit “[click to continue…]”

I’m the tall one with the good tan in the short shorts. My sister’s in the stripes. If I remember correctly, this was the ostrich who helped himself (or herself) to our French Fries. He just reached his head into the car and gobbled them out of the newspaper cone. The nerve!

Thanks to Mom & C@thy who have been doing a massive scanning project on all their photos from the olden days of film.

Wow, from the style of the clothes to the brownish hue of the photo that reminds me so much of pictures from when I was a little’un. Was your g/grandmother always that dour or just in photos. Could be because in older photographs, making an expression that could shift easily (like a smile) could botch a photo due to the lower shutter speed.

Okay, and then I see in your tags “Africa”. Africa? Tell us more about that! Was it a vacation, or did you live there? Your globe trotting is very interesting!

And yes, it’s so nice of you mom and sister to scan those photos for you!

ostriches don’t like to smile for photos either, it seems.

That is such a cool photo of the ostrich flipping his wing. Is he giving someone the ‘bird’? Maybe he is scratching his neck. That is so cool that people are going through old photos. I have so much more bulky junk to go through before I will get to little things like photos! (besides, I am not electrified…yet)

So, after looking up the word dour, I think I would have to say my Great Grandma looked like that a lot. In photos and in regular life. Poor thing. She had a tough life. And didn’t have indoor plumbing until the 80′s, so that could explain a few things.

And I almost forgot – yup, that was on a trip to Zimbabwe, Denise! We went there a few times to visit with family friends. I’ll find some more photos and elaborate. [*note to self - good future blog post topic.*]
