I had a lovely and thoughtful message from Kelaine after I posted my faux pas with the PR person the other day while taking photos at the DQ festivities. Kelaine sent me my own toy camera business card to download and print off so I can take them with me. The next time someone asks, “Are you the press?”, this is what I will do. Step by step.
1) Smile. (Thank you Chris!)
2) Hand the person my custom-made-by-Kelaine super business card:
3) Say this verbatim:
“No, I am not with the media, but I am a blogger and this will be documented later today!” – thanks to Lelainia for the actual words. I’m putting them on flash cards and will practice this until I know it by heart and Mike wakes me up in the middle of the night begging me to stop saying that in my sleep! Please!
4) I sure won’t say “No” to the press question again – ala Ariane.
I guess it really does take a village to help some of us get it together. And my village is on the internets. Thank you buddies, fellow bloggers and commenters. I can use all the help I can get.
*Special thanks to Kelaine for my cool and arty new logo.*

Oh that’s fabulous! I am willing to bet you get a few jaw drops when you whip that baby out! *laughs*
Glad I could help too.
I think we are often too quick to discredit ourselves in our lives. We’re “just” an artist or blogger or mother or…well you fill in the blank. We’re not “just” anything, really! It’s such a knee-jerk reaction to play down our talents . There’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying “Here’s who I am, I am good at what I do and I am worth knowing”. It’s what Marianne Williamson wrote (and people remember from Nelson Mandella’s inaguration speech) about how when you have the courage to step up and stand fully in who you are, you give others permission to let what’s special about them shine forth too. (I am paraphrasing here, but that was the jist.)
And yes, it’s wonderful, this blogging community of artists and creatives. I am of the firm opinion that we are so much more together. Learning is a shared experience and I am so grateful we live in an age where with a mere push of a button, we can connect and interact with kindred spirits no matter where we are in the world.
It takes a village to inspire an artist!
I’m glad you like it though it almost had a llama on it…
Awesome that I’m step number one. In fact, if I could rely only on step number one, I’d be Golden (well, I already am Golden by default). Unfortunately, my step number two involves the delicate task of placing my foot into my mouth, while step number three is usually figuring out how to extricate said foot.
That is a wonderful plan! I hope you grant yourself permission to get it sorta kinda close for the first, oh say a dozen, attempts. I love the card. PERFECT!
Then they can look themselves up! Could’a slipped a card to one of the girls in a red lace dress while saying ‘Please excuse the cat food. Please accept my card. ‘
That’s fantastic- I love it!!
