The Paralympic Opening Ceremonies – Part 1

I’m going to have to break this up into a few posts because there was so much going on that I don’t want to miss anything. Going to the Paralympic Opening Ceremonies was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had – and that’s saying something, because if you read my blog at all, I really try to pack as many fun adventures in where ever I can.

Mike and Bec and I left with plenty of time to get through the airport style screening in tents and made it through with flying colours. None of us got the wand – we were all clear. We headed into BC Place with piles of other people. When we got into the stadium, this is what we saw on all the seats:

YES! Treat bags. We quickly opened up our party bags to find a white poncho, a white pompom and a gold card. Excellent! Audience participation! Awesome.

We got there kind of early and had time to check out all the props around the stadium – from our seats of course. On the opposite side of the stadium to us, we could see a huge pile of balloons -

And off to the side of the balloons we saw 2 sections completely filled with people for some reason. We couldn’t figure that one out. But if you look closely at the photo below…

We discovered later in the evening that they were the choir disguised as regular audience members.

We waited patiently for the stadium to fill up…

Soon we saw the theme/motto of the ceremonies displayed (NOTE: Mike took this photo):

One inspires many, or, en français, Un esprit qui inspire.

And at 5:00 it was time to learn all about how we’d be involved in the event.

To be continued…
