I was so hoping this shot would turn out. I took this photo of Mike for the theme, “Tie”. I was starting to feel tired at that point and just told Mike to tie his scarf off to the side (I lighten the photo up a bit so you can see it a bit better.) so I could just be done with it, already. We were on the 7th hour and I had taken only 6 shots before this one. Just as I pressed down on the button, I remembered that the camera instructions suggested standing 1.5 meters away from your subject. I was way closer than that because my wide angle lens for my digital camera works best closer up. Oops. But I had a little hope that it would be okay. And it did! YAY!
After this exercise, I think I understand why some people like the look of film. I think I’m one of those people, too. And even though some people may be able to make their digital photos look like film in photoshop, I don’t think I’m one of them, so I may just do some of my shots in film, too.
I have another photo to show you, too. And then I’ll stop. I promise.
Our 4th theme was “blank”. Ugh. I half-heartedly decided to take a photo of The Vogue Theatre sign. It was under construction at the time and not very interesting. But the time was ticking away so I decided that would be the one. The weird thing is I don’t remember seeing it look this way through the viewfinder. Just another bonus of using a toy camera – you don’t get what you see through the finder somehow. I think it’s the pink colour I like the best.
Anyway, here are the other photos I took in case you’re interested. And I know how much time it took the organizers to get all these photos scanned in and sorted so everyone could see them. Really, it was a time consuming pile of work for them.
And Vancouver is filled with many awesome photographers. Phil took this shot which I love. And here are all the sets for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

This looked like a fun time, how did you enter this contest? I think it would be fun to do. Good job , I think you did well!
YOU GET WHAT YOU SEE WITH A DIDGITAL CAMERA!!! Well I’ll be. *.
That is a great shot of the blank sign.
The shot of Mike is very good, what great ‘feeling’ you’ve captured! And the blank sign is fab too. How great that you are doing what you love!
People (myself included) spend so much money buying digital cameras just to turn around and try to make the pictures have that “film” like look. I love how with film we *hope* our pictures will turn out well and once in a while it surpasses all our expectations – its like getting a gift
This picture of Mike is one of my favourites too, I like his expression, the way the scarf points up, and the general dreaminess of the picture.
Carol, you are SUCH a superstar. I love that picture of Mike, and I love that you participated in this project! That is just about the coolest thing ever. (Although I would think you were cooler if you’d taken that picture Phil got…
)
That is a very cool photo of Mike. You are the great one, Carol Browne.
