…we all hollered as he brought the Paralympic Torch down through the crowd at Robson Square to light the celebration cauldron that’s been set up beside the skating rink underground. It’s a just little cauldron.

I got to the torch area where Luongo was to appear about 20 minutes before he got there. The location for this event was cramped and the venue was small. I had to do that “muscle in” thing I don’t enjoy too much. I opted to use a short lens because sometimes the zoomy lens is just too long and if the people get too close, I can’t get a shot at all. The lighting was bad, so I had to use the flash, but I made do. I did a lot of cropping on the photos you see here. Thankfully we were in a covered area because about 10 minutes after he arrived, it started to just pour down with rain.

More photos below…

Luongo arrived just after 6 pm and gave a very short and sweet speech about how all the fans made the Olympics so much fun for him. Everyone cheered and then he brought out an adorable little side kick.

Oh jeez. She sure was distracting. And his reaction to her was even more so.

Even the other speech givers were distracted by his little daughter. I’m sorry to tell you that I don’t know who the person is speaking into the microphone, and I don’t know who the lady in the Canada scarf is. I do know that the man holding his hands with his fingers entwined is Mayor Robertson. And that’s only because he’s everywhere these days.

What was I saying? See, even the guy who had the mic earlier couldn’t pay attention.

This was almost near the end of the speeches.

That was exciting! And adorable! I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed politicians making speeches as much as I did tonight.
