The Union Jack-o-lantern – take 1

I found this quilt pattern on the pinterest and couldn’t get it out of my head. I had to try it! So, I got up this morning, made banana smoothies, did not turn on my computer or the TV, and got sewing. I sewed in complete silence – no podcasts or anything – I wanted to focus on the sewing. I started cutting and sewing and following the directions and before I knew it, I had 4 blocks made! Sadly, they were all the same. Oof. No matter how I arranged them, it wouldn’t come close to the Union Jack.

Back to the drawing board.

I brought out the iPad and made each square, following the instructions step by step and made 3 more squares. I took a break for lunch and then sewed those squares all together! Hooray! Time to take photos!

I decided I wanted to pick acorns at Hume Park today, so I rolled up my finished quilt top and took it with me to the park.

Then I got to the park! And I got out my camera to take photos and…

I left the battery charging on the wall at home.

No acorn photos for us. I’ll have to go back another day. There were plenty of acorns (I picked a bunch) and dogs at the dog park. One thing I figured out today, when I miss having a dog, I’ll just go down to the dog park. I got to pet plenty of dogs and a few even licked me on the face.

ANYWAY, I went home to take photos on the wall of ivy out front. I was so pleased with my finished quilt top.

Yay! Union Jack time! Hey, wait…hang on.

The centre piece isn’t right.

It’s supposed to be solid.

DRAT. So close. I guess I have to pull those last two pieces apart and, well, I guess the last 4 pieces a part and try again.

I feel like this guy.

On the plus side, I got ALL the characters facing the right way, so that’s a good thing.

I’ll get cracking, and fix that centre piece right up.

That looks awesome!!!! I love it. Are you going to put it on a flagpole and have it proudly waving in front of your house? I packed all my sewing stuff up in an attempt to declutter for showing my house and I am missing it. Can’t wait to unpack everything and get back at it!

You can always come visit Indy. I think you’d love him-he’s black! And we go to the dog park alot, so come with us sometime. You should come when we go up to the lake for him to swim-it was so quiet, the lake was like glass and me, without my camera!
