My last trip to the library to find even more Feng Shui literature, I found a book called, The Essence of Feng Shui – Balancing your Body, Home, and Life with Fragrance by Jami Lin. At first glance, I thought, ” That’s nuts. There’s special smells for different spots in your house?” and put the book down. But something about it niggled at me. I figured if someone took the time to figure out smells for different parts of your living quarters and write a whole book about it, I should really read it. So I checked it out of the library and I’m nearly finished reading it.
It turns out the book is about scents for your house as well as scents for your body. I just happened to have a bottle of eucalyptus oil from my bought of some sort of airborne illness I had last month. Here are a few things that eucalyptus is good for:
- our immune system – it’s a natural antiseptic and expectorant (ew)
- our minds – the smell encourages alertness and increases energy
- our spirits – eucalyptus purifies your spirit. I’m not sure what that means. But it sounds nice.
- our Heart Chakra – our body’s healing centre. I’m not up on the Chakras, but know that it’s the area where your heart and lungs are in your body and it’s function is to love.
- our Third Eye Chakras – eucalyptus is good for alertness and concentration – especially good when used to improve your intuition and perkiness.
- and helps to heal all kinds of coughs, sore throats and in reducing fevers.
I feel alert and my immune systems feels stronger just writing out this list. And how do you use eucalyptus oil? In a few ways. You can make it into a spray with some distilled water and put it in a spray bottle, you can add a few drops to hot water and inhale the steamy goodness, or you can shake a couple of drops in a tissue or hanky (if you’re fancy) and inhale the smell that way.
My next scent to try? Vetiver. It’s supposed to help with intellectual fatigue AND irritability. Now that’s a tall order.

Me too. Of course I love cough drops.
Would love to tell you what Phil calls this stuff…lol
Humm. My homeopath got me off eucalyptus years ago. I wonder if that still stands. It was in a flower arrangement I could smell recently. It was soothing.
I have a few bottles of this and that. There is looooots of info on the goodness of plants. You will have an exciting journey of discovery with that one. Enjoy!
Naughty, naughty, Phil! Heh.
