I’m really not one to get too excited about salads. I’m really way more excited by baked goods and chocolates. But veggies? Not so much. I try, but, deep down, I feel mostly indifferent about them. That was until I found out about the house salad over at Finches Cafe in Vancouver. I believe my favourite part is the sliced pears OR the blue cheese Brie. Or is it the dressing? I have no idea what’s in it – but it’s so tasty. My buddy, Catherine (those are her elbows) and I go there quite often for lunch when she’s working in the downtown office. If you can get a table – it’s a popular place – the decor is cute and old fashioned. I think the term is Shabby Chic – old wooden tables with mismatched chairs. If you can’t get a seat, they wrap your sandwich in butcher paper and then wrap it with raffia. It really feels classy to walk to your destination with your pretty wrapped sandwich. We dined in today and drank bubbly lemonade with our lunch – trying to keep cool in the big heat wave of 2009.
We are boiling. And I mean really hot. I am so grateful to work in an air conditioned building, I can’t even tell you. I’ve got it really good. We’ve had air quality warnings yesterday and today and according to the forecast, this hot weather is going to stick around well past the long weekend. Yahoo! Long weekend coming right up! I am loving it.
Between the A/C at work and the balcony set up, we’ve got it pretty good at Chez Browne.
More good news – I won a prize today from an etsy artist named Jennnifer. It’s a surprise giveaway, so I’m not sure what it will be, but I’m sure it’s going to be great.
Hot day, good day!

You’re right! The salad is gorgeous, and I’m sure it’s yummy too.
Congrats on the win!
yummmmm. I’m not a salad girl, either, but one’s like that make it a little more fun to eat. Art has taken over the summer cooking and I’m glad. He’s super creative with all these veggies and makes delish salads just like that one. I give him lots and lots of praise in hopes that he will continue to do it.
