I’m not sure how much longer these Christmas lights will be up in the Town Centre of Rootin’ Tootin’ Newton (or is that Rewtin’ Tewtin’ Newton?), but they were still glowing it up tonight. They are the first thing I see when I’m getting off the bus – sort of a welcome home sign.
It was a chilly walk home tonight – well, for our part of the world, anyway. It’s supposed to go below zero tonight! What? In the Lower Mainland? That happens about once a year, so I guess we are right on track. I could tell it was going to be a cool one today because on the ride into work this morning, it was clear! And a bit sunny! And the sky was a lovely azure (I just looked up the synonym for sky-blue and it turns out, “azure” is it.) All the azure sky reminded me to get some 35mm film for the new-to-us Pentax cameras my dad sent us for Christmas – along with some killer lenses. I did get a few packages and with any luck, the weather will be more of the same tomorrow, so I’ll be able to get some sunny film photos done.

So far, I haven’t done too much sight seeing around our new neighbourhood, so I’ll get cracking on that very soon. from what I have seen, however, there are an inordinate amount of motels in our area. I really need to look into why that is. Who is renting all the motel rooms in the surrounding areas of Newton? Who named these motels? (some of the names are pretty good) and WHY is there a campground a 10 minute drive from were we live? Who is camping in tents or trailers in Surrey? I will find out and report back to you.
Actually, photographing the Surrey Motels is a good little photo project for getting to know this area. The signs are pretty great and so is some of the lighting. I will put that on my photo walk list immediately.

Cool lights, Carole, reminds me of Mardi Gras colours! They should leave them up til March!\
On the way home from SMH yesterday, from the skytrain I noticed a wooded area that is rife with garbage and seems to be an tent city. I use that term lightly because there aren’t really tents as much as there are lots of stolen shopping carts and homeless people camped out there. It’s waaaay too cold for anyone to be sleeping outside. It’s sad, really.
Any time I ride to Surrey, I want to email the Mayor and tell her that the ride into her city does not give a good impression-she should take a ride just to see how much garbage needs to be cleaned up. It’s appalling.
