I just couldn’t bring myself to put away all our Christmas decorations. I guess since Oscar & Donner don’t care at all about Christmas decorations, I figured we can live dangerously for awhile. Donner is still an incredible klutz, so it’s possible he could jump up to check out the decorations, slip, and then tip the whole thing over – kind of like he did with the iron yesterday. Oscar was chasing him and Donner jumped on the ironing board, with the hot iron on it. Luckily I was there to watch him misjudge the jump, grab for dear life onto the ironing board and pull the whole thing over on himself, but he’s pretty quick, so he was able to jump out of the way and scare the crap out of Oscar. All the commotion made Oscar take off with his tail fully puffy and Donner ran off in a skittery, slinky way. This vase full of sticks could provide some entertainment for all of us.
These “decorative branches” made the perfect background for my newest skull, Skully Jr. I got him from Dianne for Christmas and he is delightful.
He was made by a folk artist in Nova Scotia. He’s made of wood and has a coat of varnish on him. He smells like a woodshop – a very nice smell. I can’t find a signature or stamp or anything that would tip me off as to who the artist is. My flaming heart Mexican Christmas ornament goes with him perfectly, and I can also bring out some of my other Day of the Dead ornaments in the Fall.
I found some heart decorations I forgot I had and put them on the twigs. I also kept the birds Cynthia made to welcome spring. While I can be superstitious – remember that whole feng shui episode I had for awhile? I am trying to ignore the old wive’s tale that a bird in the house means an impending death. One of my friends reminded me of this not to long ago and I tried not to let it get into my head. So, I hit up snopes (the old wive’s tales buster website) and feel much better about birds in the house. It really only pertains to wild birds. These are not wild birds. They are lovely, fabric birds of captivity.
And, as the website points out, kitties love it when birds get in the house. So it’s a good omen for them, too.
Thank you, Dianne for the lovely skully! He’ll be a very festive skull, I can assure you of that. I think I’ll put a tiny May Day wreath of flowers on his head this Spring. Skully Jr. is going to be a welcome addition to all the festivities at the Brownes.

The name of the folk artist is Pat Ryerson and her little home is filled with her awesome work…this was her first skull carving. I will be sure to take some pictures of her treasures the next time Martina and I go to visit. You should see the bird sculptures and she also paints them!! She told me she can look at a piece of wood and knows exactly what it will it will look like when she is finished. So glad Skully Jr. has found a good home…Pat will be thrilled when I tell her!!
Oooh Skully Jr is so cute- he looks happy in his new home!
