I noticed this cool meteor over at the Skytrain Station on Georgia & Granville Street a few weeks ago. It turns out it’s an art piece for the Vancouver Biennale project. I love this shiny sculpture and yesterday on my lunch hour, I hung out at the meteor for a few minutes and took photos.
A random hipster walked into my frame as I was shooting. I like it! I’m pretty sure he was posing for someone else.
The actual name for this art piece is The Artificial Rock and it’s made of stainless steel – sadly, it’s not from outer space as I had originally hoped. It’s pretty good piece for Chinese New Year, though, as the upcoming year is Year of the Tiger – and a metal year. I’m getting all up to speed on that.
Here’s where the meteor lives – at the entrance of the Vancouver City Centre Skytrain Station:
Shortly after my arrival at the meteor, a photoshoot started:

This is going to be one of the fun hangout areas during the Vancouver 2010 Games – Granville Street is blocked off (it has been for some time now) and will be open for pedestrians. And speaking of the pedestrians, there were plenty of them while I took pictures.
And the photoshoot continued:
I wonder where those photos will end up? A personal collection? A magazine? On someone’s blog? You never know.

I would hang out at the meteor all the time if I lived in Vancouver! That thing looks so cool! It’s like the big silver bean in Chicago but cooler and more user-friendly.
Totes Pookie! You can touch it and climb it and everything. If only it was a BIG as the Chicago Bean!
That is so cool
I think you named it best. Since when is steel not rock? It is a lovely thing. People watching there must be a hoot.
