I missed the whale

I got the news blast today around 1:00 (ala twitter) that a grey whale was swimming in False Creek right by ScienceWorld. Since it was only 2 stops away from my office on the skytrain, I hopped the train and hoped to see him! Did I?

No :-(

I just missed him. When I got off the train, I could see 2 helicopters overhead, and I could see the Coast Guard motoring toward the Cambie Street Bridge. I talked to some lucky bystanders who did see him for a few moments and watched him as he swam away. This is the view I got of that scenario:

A bike would have been perfect at a time like this because there’s a bike path that goes all along the water. Sadly, I had to head back to the office, so I couldn’t carry on with this adventure. But some other local bloggers got some great shots.

My buddy, Ariane, got this great aerial view of the whale from the Burrard Street Bridge. And the guys over at Vancity Buzz got a nice little video of the whale. You can see that here.

Apparently the whale came back to False Creek this evening again. Clearly he’s confused. Poor guy.
