It was business as usual today, so I had to go to work just like everybody else in town. We had to stop by the mall on the way home and were greeted by this sight:

I don’t think this dog was left unattended because we could see the feet of someone leaning against the truck on the left hand side. The dog didn’t seem to be upset, I think he was calm, submissive, and curious. Well, maybe a bit anxious, but he was holding it together well on the roof of the truck.

I took some pictures of this brave dog and soon a few people were walking toward him and he hopped down into the back of the truck, so he was okay. I think that was a better option than leaving him in the truck because today was a hot one. What can I say? Just another day at Brentwood Mall. That area of Burnaby is becoming a bit seedy, I’ve noticed. I think it’s because of the relatively new Skytrain Station. For some reason this part of the suburbs has become a big hangout for pan handlers and squeegee kids. We got panhandled the other day at the gas station across the street. I’m used to seeing that kind of stuff right in Vancouver, not out in the ‘burbs.
And speaking of things I wasn’t expecting to see, this guy walked right in front of me while I was setting up my camera trying to take pictures of the moon (none really turned out the way I wanted them to. But the real full moon is on Friday, so I have 2 more days of trying to get that sorted out.)

Two ESL students saw him as well and started running after it to see what it was. I warned them not to get too close, and to stop chasing him because they may get sprayed. The girl looked at me, held her nose and said, “Oh! skunk!” They chatted to each other and slowly crept up behind him…trying to get a better look.
I did think for a second that taking pictures of people getting sprayed by a skunk could be good entertainment, but realizing I could also be sprayed in the mêlée, I opted to warn them instead. There I go…thinking of others again.
I was also reading the comments from the turtle rescue post (and thank you, by the way!) and Jo-Ann casually mentioned a miniature railway someplace in Burnaby. The heck? What? A miniature railway? I’m going on that adventure next…but always staying on the trails.
Oh, and guess what? Skunk butt! Oh, Michelle, that gets me every time!

oooh the abysmall- that name stuck with us since the time you mentioned it before when you were working there- the last time we went we got panhandled there too. it’s like the place stores go to die or somethin’…!
You didn’t know about the miniature railway? I totally keep wanting to ride that, it looks so fun. I went on the old one at another park years ago, but this one has been there for 10-15 years.
