I am enjoying exploring the old building I now work in. This old mailbox is very fancy.

I’m not sure how to tell you this, but I was unable to figure out how the mailbox worked. For starters, I “mailed” two letters today from the 5th floor by using this mail slot. There’s sign above the slot that says, “Mail early. Mail often”. COOL. So I put the letters in the slot and figured I had mailed them.

I walked down the skinny marble stairwell and found my letters on the floor in the lobby next to the fancy mailbox. When I tried to put them in the mailbox, it wouldn’t open where I thought it would. I’m not sure I want to ask my new coworkers how the mailbox works. But I’m curious enough to casually work it into a conversation in the next few days or so. I’ll start with, “So…is that fancy mailbox in the lobby ‘active’?” and see how it goes from there. I share an office with some finance people, so I’m pretty sure they know something about mail and mailing cheques and stuff.

Right next to the fancy mailbox is this door.

It looks just like a door out of Mad Men – but if it’s original, then it’s way older than the 60’s. Also, were people shorter and thinner 100 years ago? Because it sure seems smaller than the average door I see around. I also wonder because the marble staircase is pretty skinny.

Enquiring minds want to know! I’ll see if I can dig up the answers to these most important questions.

I am just taken with the fact that it says Royal Mail! So odd that the letters fall out though! It looks like a very interesting building architecturally. I love old buildings!
