Practice, practice, practice…

in Photos, Vancouver

Over the next few weeks, I will be taking the camera you see in this photo (it’s the blue one on the tripod) with me everywhere in order to really get used to shooting with film. The 12X12 Marathon is less than a month away, and I really want to use this camera for that event. It’s that toy camera I clicked at Malcolm’s party, but didn’t get any photos out of. I figured out I had one of many problems that night. In addition to the low lighting, the film exposed to the light when I thought I had rewound it, I didn’t have the basic settings correct. In fact, I didn’t have pieces of the camera I needed to put INSIDE the camera. That’s a true story. Pieces missing! UGH!

So, today I sat down and watched 3 or 4 how-to videos by a Diana F+ Master called Kai – starting with how to set up the camera correctly (those missing pieces), putting in the film, and how to put on the viewfinder for the fisheye lens.

So, tomorrow is a new a day! I’ll be walking about town with the camera during the day to see if I can get the hang of that and move on to tougher conditions. But tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, so I’ll see what I can do. I feel good about this one! Yes I do. But just to be sure, I’ll be bringing the tape measure with me. I need to learn how to judge distances better with this camera – just because it’s in focus in the viewfinder doesn’t mean it’s in focus on the film. OI.

And in other news, I think we’ll be doing ANOTHER cookbook – no details can be given at this time. I know! Top Secret! Exciting!

Start selling the things! Your viewing public demands it. Please.

Okay! I’ll do it, Art. And Leah, I really hope they turn out!

Looking forward to seeing the results of your experimentation. I hear good things about the camera but I’ve never actually seen anyone get anything useful out of it so this will be really cool!
