Skunk party at the Browne’s house!

Mike and I came home about 9:30ish tonight and were surprised to see 3 skunks in the next door neighbour’s yard. THREE OF THEM!

Mike stood guard as I tried to get a decent photo. At first I turned off the flash and got a couple of photos in focus, but not too many. I eventually had to turn on the flash and really only got photos of one guy that walked right through our front yard/field of weeds. Yah. Remember how I mentioned I have lost interest in the garden? I totally had, until I scored an amazing pile of plants yesterday. Those weeds will be GONE this weekend. I promise. I’ll even show you pictures.

Oh great. Now I’ve really got to do it. Crap.

Anyway, here’s what we watched from a distance – although still dangerous. If they wanted, they could have totally stampeded us and sprayed us and clawed us with their tiny bear-like paws:

The little guys (?) were either fighting, playing, or they weren’t all guys and someone was, uh, being courted? In the end, we decided that they were hooligan brothers, just playing and being goofy. In the same way Oscar and Donner are hooligan brothers.

I ended up following this one brother as the others skipped off through the other neighbour’s front yard, but this last guy took his time checking out our front yard. I can’t be sure what he was doing, but it seemed like he was rooting around a bit while casually making his way across the yard in front of us.

And then he just waltzed away in front of us.

See you later, then.

No skunks were harmed during this photoshoot. And no humans were sprayed, either. Even with the flash. I just made sure not to get too close.

BEST. BLOG. POST. EVER.

I need to know where this family of skunks lives. This is incredible.

They live in a treasure chest with a leprechaun at the end of a rainbow… a very smelly rainbow.

Thank goodness you didn’t get sprayed! Once I tried to get a close-up of a bee and it flew at me and I thought how funny it would be to get stung in pursuit of the photo. Super cute skunk family!

You should have held pics back and doled them out over a week in an amazing follow up to last years Llama week! I’m still obsessed with Llama week. will never let it go. It has touched me forever. :)

Oh I have heard that there are a lot of skunks around lately. My friend growning up had pet skunks! If they are young and get use to you they don’t spray and are sort of like cats. Let’s hope they don’t wander onto the road, that is where I see most of them :(

Skunk week??!! Why didn’t I think of that? That could have been more popular than Shark Week on the Discovery Channel! DARN!!!

Oh arn’t they sooo cuuuute! squeeeeee!
I like skunks. Friends of my mom’s had a pet descented skunk. Went to pick it up and it’s rib cage colapses and it feels like I have a bag of sand in my hands. I felt like I was going to kill it.

I don’t believe skunks attack anything after they spray. They hold their tails in the air to warn anybody that they are there, and they stand on their hands to give further warning they are going to spray. The spray, evidently, has acid in it wich burns something fierce. You don’t want to get spayed by a skunk. I am going to go off now and look up skunks and see if I told any lies.

I hope you see more of the Skunk Brothers.
