Here’s Donner in front of the kitty robot. As you can see there’s not food in the dish part, just in the plastic bubble. The robot makes the next scheduled delivery tomorrow morning at 5:30. But in the meantime, no food? No problem. Donner’s on the case.
This is how you get kibbles from the robot Donner style:
1) Put your paw out and bring it toward the kitty robot:

I think this is what kitties are for. They just make you feel good – with their headrubs and their little me-yews when they see you opening up the can of cat food. And the way they rub around your legs whenever you walk into the kitchen. And also Oscar waiting for me at the top of the stairs when I get home in the evening. I’m so glad we’ve got these two guys. I think they’re happy living with us, too.
This is a lucky shot of Donner with the 50mm, the light a little overexposed and Mike keeping his attention focused with the help of his wiggling fingers long enough to nearly get the little guy in focus.
I think I need to keep using this lens. I really like the images I can get with it.

Donner’s health has really improved since taking him to the vet last week. His nose is all clear now and he’s really full of beans. Over the course of the last week we’ve experienced 1 knocked over lamp and 2 dining room chairs tipped over. Oscar did this once back we first got him. I think they either stand up on the back of the chair until it tips over or they are jumping on the back railing of the chair. Either way, the chairs fell backwards and 2/3 times, the chair has fallen right into the china cabinet. I would imagine the cats fell against the china cabinet as well, but I didn’t actually see any of it happen, so this is all theory. Thankfully the china cabinet didn’t topple over and none of the glass on the outside broke. We’ve moved the chairs away from the cabinet and I’ve since found 1 toppled over chair in my office.
There are regular tearing-around-the-house races between Oscar and Donner and there are pieces of those little rabbit fur mice all over the house. Donner likes to carry them around the house for awhile, then fling it around the room for a bit. Next he’ll tear it to shreds. God forbid any mice enter this house – DEAD. MEAT.
I’m secretly enjoying all the hijinks and only pretend I’m mad when I see something askew and say, “Boys! Did you do this?” or, “What are you boys doing in the kitchen sink?” or “Who pushed these apples off the counter?”
I think both kitties like living with us, too – so that’s a bonus.
And you know something else about Black Cats?

We took the littlest kitty to the vet today after I basically tricked him into getting into Oscar’s cat carrier. I sprayed the fabric case with Feliway (the magic cat pheromones) and Oscar sauntered right into it – Donner hung out with Oscar at one side and in one fell swoop, Mike picked up Oscar and I picked up Donner and switched places so Donner was inside all suddenly all zipped up. Aha! Feliway strikes again. I also sprayed inside the car with the good-smell-for-kitties in an effort to make him feel comfortable on the way to the vet. He’s a real Nervous Nelly. All went well at the vet even though he’s got the kitty herpes – a virus that is pretty common in the cat shelters, unfortunately. It’s a respiratory disorder – apparently there are 22 varieties of this virus (Dr. Browne told us that) that affect cats.
The vet said his sniffles could go away completely, or could come and go. He was also prescribed baby antibiotics that Mike picked up from the local pharmacy (shown above), and now has to have warmed up soft food so he’ll eat his antibiotics. I’m also supposed to keep him in the bathroom with me when I take a shower, so the steam will help break up the congestion. I’m sure that will go well.
The warmed up food was a big hit tonight for the boys for dinner. I always feed Oscar first, but Donner couldn’t wait and started eating Oscar’s food. Oscar doesn’t mind. He really likes Donner. He was taking care of him tonight – grooming him after dinner.
