*This clever sign was spotted in a cute little lunch diner called Finches on Pender & Homer in Vancouver. Have the House Salad, it’s divine.*
I washed our jerseys last night in preparation for the last game of this season. Canucks are playing at home, for the cup, and this is make it or break it night. We either have the Stanley Cup in Vancouver tonight, or they start all over again for it in the Fall.
I could barely sleep last night, so I can only imagine how the Canucks feel right about now.
I’m pretty sure it’s not just me, but after the last game, the city felt a bit quiet. Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the articles in the newspapers, but it kind of feels like everyone in the city is holding their breath for this. I do know that not everyone is a hockey fan, so I guess I shouldn’t say everyone, but I think this anticipation is affecting a lot of us. Oh man. Is it 5 o’clock yet? EEEP

Mike and I headed over to the Vancouver Public Library to watch the game on the big screen. I thought it was adorable how the huge crowd sat on the ground cross-legged like a great, huge kindergarten class. People were mostly polite and we took a spot standing next the garbage cans next to a couple of bums. I think they were bums. They looked like they were. One guy looked in the garbage can before settling in and both lit up cigarettes while watching the game. The crowd was calm and polite and I just thought, “How Canadian of us.” Very lovely.
We watched the game until just after the first goal for Boston to see the crowd look like this:

Thanks to a reliable source (who wishes to remain anonymous) I had the good fortune to see some of the Canucks on their way to Rogers Arena for game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Seeing our back-up goalie smiling at the fans was very, very exciting. He was the only smiley one. The rest of them? They had their war faces on. Like Burrows as he drove away.

I thought it would be a good idea to take photos of ourselves first thing this morning before Mike headed out to work. He works shifts, and currently his shift starts at 7:00 am – so he’s out of the house just before 6:00 am – usually while I’m still warm and snuggly snoozing in the bed. But not today! Tonight at 5:00 pm Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals begins. It’s safe to say that the city is buzzing with excitement! Vancouver is all atwitter, even! I heard they’ve added big screens to watch all the games around the city outside. One at Granville and Robson, and the big screen at the Vancouver Convention Centre will be playing it as well. Here’s a list of the other places to watch on the streets, including Surrey. For whatever reason, they won’t stop talking about the big street party in Surrey on game nights in the local news.
