We got home from our adventure from Seattle close to midnight last night. The train ride home into the sunset and then into the night was picturesque and lovely. Really, it’s a relaxing way to travel, not to mention there’s no real wait to go through customs. The customs guys come to you right on the train at the Peace Arch border, and it goes straight to Vancouver and you go through customs upon your arrival in the city. Nice. Beats hanging out in the line up in your car wondering where you can go to the bathroom! Also, can you buy muffins in your car? Nope. But you can on the train. See? Awesome.
When we got home, a package was waiting for me from The Browne’s in Nova Scotia. The box contained this cheerful kitty riding a bike! It’s meant for your garden, but we put it on the balcony and we placed it right where I can see it while doing various chores in the kitchen! Cooking up dinner? Kitty on the bike in the window! Loading and unloading the dishwasher? Kitty on the bike in the window! His wheels spin in the wind and he even rotates around, so sometimes it looks like he’s coming right for me!

PHEW! I’m exhausted from all my birthday emails and facebook messages, cashing in my Starbucks gift card for coffee, eating birthday cake before noon, having my buddy take me for lunch and then having birthday dinner at Sushitown around the corner from our house. My first day of being 41 was excellent!
My birthday dinner consisted of my favourite sushi roll called Mangonise – there’s prawns and mango in this sushi and they drizzle it with some kind of mango mayo. Really very yummy. I have it every time we go to Sushi Town.
You know who else we got to see today? Baby Brodie. I got really close this time.

I took the afternoon off today to watch the live taping of George on the CBC. If you’re not from these parts (i.e. Canada) he’s a late night talk show guy on the Canadian Network TV. He usually works in Toronto, but from time to time he’ll go to different cities around Canada for a good time. There was no photography permitted during the taping, but I did get some photos before and a bunch after.
Did I hang around long enough to meet him? Yes. Did I talk to him? NO.
But I did hang out for a bit and listen to his stories about bike racing and stuff. But I didn’t introduce myself to him. Weird thing is that he is very approachable and he hung out with the audience afterwards for AGES. In fact, he’s putting together some kind of twitter meet up tomorrow night. I just may go so I can tell him, “Hi! I’m that creep that just took about a thousand pictures of you yesterday and never talked to you at all.” I just might do that. Anyway…

This is what a real Irish person looks like on St. Patrick’s Day. Carol Ward was so happy for the big day she brought in some cupcakes with green icing for us. But she called them buns. Cute. We ate them for breakfast.
This is how real Irish people say Happy St. Patrick’s Day:
La Fheile Padraig Sona Duit
I’m not sure how to say that, either.
Carol wasn’t dressed like this all day, just the last half hour or so of work. She sports a mean tiny leprechaun hat, that’s for sure.
She adhered a shamrock tattoo (totally washable) on her cheek:

and asked me if I wanted to see her sad leprechaun face…

Not to worry! She was not sad for long. She had places to go and people to meet. And she won’t be back to work until Monday. Oh, those leprechauns.
Meanwhile, my coworker, Elinor, enjoyed watching the leprechaun as well.

Here’s a few more photos of the day = some people at work and some lovely tiny leprechaun hat portraits.
