Oof. I stayed home today with a nasty sore throat and stupid throbby headache. I have been drinking gallooons of tea and will soon have some zupe for dinner. I feel like I’m missing out staying home. There’s so much going on these days with the Olympix, I can’t bare to miss a thing. I’ve got packages to mail out tomorrow and there’s a Canada Pavilion on Hastings Street that’s free to visit for this week only! I have to get back to work tomorrow. I just have to!
On the plus side, I did have some time today to try out some different ways to change and enhance my lantern photos I took yesterday in Chinatown. Usually I don’t like the high contrast look, but I think it worked out nicely for these photos.
This photo wasn’t taken in the lantern room, but in another room where they had a shrine set up decorated with red cyclamen. It’s very tidy.

I discovered on my lunch break that today was the lighting ceremony for the LunarFest 2010. Granville Street had been transformed into a glorious art display – including a cool art piece called the Double Happiness Chickens. I took some photos of that tonight, but will go back with my wide angle lens to get a better shot later. Lucky for me (and all of us, actually) this display is going to be on Granville Street until the end of February. I will be visiting it frequently for the next few weeks.
Anyway, tonight was the big “flip the switch on” ceremony and after standing through about half an hour of speeches (honk shooo….honk shoooo… we know about all the sponsors, their names are EVERYWHERE. Sheesh.) Mind you, they did explain that 1000 kids – some in Taiwan – helped make a whole whack of lanterns. So that was cool.
Oh, and the mayor was there. Wanna see?
