Olympics

Hi! I’m back. I took yesterday off because, well, I was pooped. And we were out late last night taking photos of the Vectorial Light Display in English Bay. I had a great idea, and that was to take photos of the lights from the West Vancouver side. We drove over to Ambleside Beach and could not see the light display at all. That’s because Stanley Park was totally in the way. Good thing I’m not a geography major.

So, we went to Stanley Park to get some photos of those darn lights. The tide was far out last night. I also discovered a heron walking in my photos once I got home. Here’s what this light installation looked like from 10:22 to 10:38 pm on the Sea Wall right near the Second Beach Pool.

Would you like to see a few more shots? Great. Because I have some for you right here.

Not quite night shots

My lunch time adventure today consisted of hopping on the Canada Line to make a quick trip into the official Coke Pin Trading Centre at the airport. It was a short and sweet trip. If you put a pin on their map, you get a coke pin made of recycled material. Very cool. The big pin map will be sent to a pin museum in the States and put on display there. I’m sure my Albertan Christian College pin will enjoy itself in the United States.

I had plans to take all night shots today, but I had a photo gig for DOXA tonight and it really wasn’t that dark when I walked across the Burrard Street Bridge, so you couldn’t see the light display below at all. That’s okay, because tomorrow we’re going to a tweet-up downtown, so I’ll get a chance to catch more of the night life. But here’s what I did see along the way…

A late afternoon stroll

I hate to even say this, but I think things are winding down in Vancouver. The line up for the Mint Pavilion was only about 3 hours long when I took my lunch at 1:30 this afternoon. One of my big desires ever since Germany House was under construction down on Cordova Street was to have lunch there. I don’t know why. So today was the day. Usually there’s a line up all the way to the Skytrain Station, but today? I just walked in, grabbed the bratwurst shown above and enjoyed my meat on a bun with these fine people:

Boing!

I went down to The Vancouver Art Gallery today for the MukMuk rally (more on that next) but was terribly distracted by some guys in red shirts bouncing on a trampoline. Someone said they were the Olympic trampoline team, but I didn’t see anything identifying them officially. But who cares? They were awesome. Here’s some more trampolining shots…

Yesterday’s news

February 23, 2010

I’m getting caught up. After the doggy post yesterday, I had to to go to bed. Here’s a couple more photos from yesterday. Yesterday morning at 8:40-ish, the news van was outside our building doing a piece on the Mint Pavilion. At that time, the estimated wait to see the medals was 7 hours. And [...]

Sled Dogs!

February 22, 2010

Yet another day with another lunch time adventure! I had heard on twitter this morning the Huskies would be down in Yaletown at the RoundHouse for a little while at lunch. At 11:45, I left the office and hopped 1 stop to the RoundHouse. I got off the train, went over to the spot. No [...]

The Day Off Edition

February 21, 2010

Believe me. I felt weird not going downtown today. I felt a little antsy, like I was missing something. But tomorrow it’s back to Vancouver where I’ll be hanging out in Yaletown for a flickr meet-up after work. In lieu of some funky downtown shots, I thought I’d give you a “collectible” update. Here’s my [...]

Today’s theme: Traffic

February 20, 2010

Mike and I headed to downtown this afternoon for a little shopping adventure. We are on a mission to find an official Winter Games mug to send to a friend in Nova Scotia. We also wanted to see the W2 Social Media Centre to see where the cool kids hang out. God only knows why, [...]

Then Michelle Kwan & Scott Hamilton arrived…

February 19, 2010

Not only is Catherine a champion scout for celebrities, she is also the best spot finder for photos. Somehow we muscled through about 3 layers of people so she was able to get right to the barrier between the cement and the ice skating rink. I used her shoulder as a tripod and leaned in [...]
