Before I announce the WINNERS, I wanted to show you some lovely lanterns I took photos of in Chinatown today:

I went into Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s Garden today for a sneak peak of what’s happening for Chinese New Year. They have a few decorations up and a shrine, but I think they are just getting started because the day is still about 10 days away. The big parade is on February 14th and Bec will be marching in the parade! I know! Bec marching in the Chinese New Year Parade? I will be there bright and early on the morning of the big day to record the moment.
Guess what? I just happen to have 2 pairs of mitts to give away today. So, I used THIS random generator (thanks random.org!) to sort out the copious amounts of comments. Er. Well. Okay. There were 9 comments, so your chances of winning are very good.
Without further ado, here is winner number 1:

What do you know? #4 commenter is in need of mittens in Nova Scotia. Michelle, your hands will be warm very soon. Just hang on!
And the second pair of mitts go to….drumroll please…..
Kelaine, who resides in the wintery prairies of Alberta! Brrr…
Way to go, guys! Your new mitts will be in your hot little hands in the very near future. I’ll put them in the mail tomorrow.
I think I just may have a couple more little giveaways over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned.
And let me be the first to say I am very saddened that we won’t have photos of a very pregnant Stacey in a bikini wearing the red gloves in California – preferably in Disneyland. Darned randomness. It can be a fun stealer sometimes.
On my last post, Kelaine mentioned the Zip Line. I had heard about it somewhere, so when my buddy, Catherine, asked me if I’d like to join her at lunch time to pick up some tickets (for the medal ceremonies – curiously, there are apparently some tickets left and they only cost $22.) I happily joined her. And this is where the Zip Line will start – on the Robson side of the Vancouver Art Gallery:

Just in case you’re not familiar with this area, the dome in the foreground is the same dome that covers the skating rink I visited in this post.
How do I know this big platform is the Zip Line? Because on the other side, I found this van right next to it:

This afternoon I had a meeting with an employer who’s location is very near the ScienceWorld Skytrain Station. This very Skytrain station happens to be right across the water from The Village for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. There’s a walkway that leads from ScienceWorld and takes you all the way along the water to Yaletown. I took a right before GM Place (it won’t be called that much longer. It’s official name during The Games will be Canada Hockey Place) and walked up to Chinatown. But, back on the walkway, there are tents set up and and it looks as though ScienceWorld is being rented out for a Russian display area of sorts. The whole area along the walkway is filling up with huge tents for displays for Ontario and Saskatchewan. And right along the water are all sorts of Inukshuks. I’ll go back with better footwear – my clogs were not really good for climbing around the rocky patches with a camera.
