I pouted as I took a seat way up in the balcony section of the newly named Rogers Arena. “Really? I have to sit way up here? Last year when Mike got our tickets, we didn’t have sit up in the rafters. We got to sit down on the Plaza Level.” Last year was so civilized compared to my solitary journey to see the open practice this year. I sighed to myself. “Should I even stay?” I wondered. Hrumph. I looked down and watched the tiny Zamboni shine up the ice. “Looks like tilt-shift from up here.” Hey, wait a minute! Tilt-shift? I decided right then to do a tilt-shift series. I might as well, this is the PERFECT angle for tilt shift photos. Not sure what tilt shift is? Here’s the definition just in case you don’t:
“Tilt-shift photography” refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene. Sometimes the term is used when the shallow depth of field is simulated with digital postprocessing; the name may derive from the tilt-shift lens normally required when the effect is produced optically. and that reminded me of a photo I took but didn’t post from the open practice we attended back in October. The guys were all intent on something the assistant coach was writing on what I can only assume was a white board with all kinds of secret strategies on it.
I’m a big Kyle Wellwood fan, so I like the distortion through the plexiglass and since Raymond scored a hat trick tonight, it’s a happy accident that half his face is also in the photo.
