Game Day dinner

The day got away from me today! Before I knew it, it was time to get some dinner ready before the big game. I did take some time to make some homemade BBQ sauce for the chicken. It was okay, but I’m just not a BBQ sauce person. I keep thinking I SHOULD be, but I’m just not – gooey sweet tomato-y sauce isn’t my thing, I’ve officially decided. I’d rather taste the yummy chicken with a little crunchy skin and some seasoning. That’s it.

In any event, the sun was shining today, making it perfect weather for grilling up some chicken and some asparagus. Wait, is the plural for asparagus, asparagui? Heh. Well, it is now at our house. We enjoyed some asparagui, brown rice and BBQ chicken.

While out on the balcony cooking up the dinner, I took a moment to spy on the neighbours. No. I didn’t. It just looked like I did with my zoomy lens pointed two houses away into their backyard.

Game Day at 5:25 am

I thought it would be a good idea to take photos of ourselves first thing this morning before Mike headed out to work. He works shifts, and currently his shift starts at 7:00 am – so he’s out of the house just before 6:00 am – usually while I’m still warm and snuggly snoozing in the bed. But not today! Tonight at 5:00 pm Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals begins. It’s safe to say that the city is buzzing with excitement! Vancouver is all atwitter, even! I heard they’ve added big screens to watch all the games around the city outside. One at Granville and Robson, and the big screen at the Vancouver Convention Centre will be playing it as well. Here’s a list of the other places to watch on the streets, including Surrey. For whatever reason, they won’t stop talking about the big street party in Surrey on game nights in the local news.

Not quite night shots

My lunch time adventure today consisted of hopping on the Canada Line to make a quick trip into the official Coke Pin Trading Centre at the airport. It was a short and sweet trip. If you put a pin on their map, you get a coke pin made of recycled material. Very cool. The big pin map will be sent to a pin museum in the States and put on display there. I’m sure my Albertan Christian College pin will enjoy itself in the United States.

I had plans to take all night shots today, but I had a photo gig for DOXA tonight and it really wasn’t that dark when I walked across the Burrard Street Bridge, so you couldn’t see the light display below at all. That’s okay, because tomorrow we’re going to a tweet-up downtown, so I’ll get a chance to catch more of the night life. But here’s what I did see along the way…
