
I took my camera out on my lunch hour today and headed over to the Occupy Vancouver Tent City on the Georgia side of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
To be honest, I haven’t kept up too much with the Occupy Vancouver stuff. I’m not clear on all the things being protested, although I get the gist that it’s in support of the Occupy Wallstreet protests in New York – people protesting corporate greed, not having a proper healthcare system, serious concerns about the oil industry and awful banking practices. I felt grateful that I live in a country where we have a Universal Healthcare System and where peaceful protests are accepted. I know this is simplifying things, but I’m not a political blogger. There are other people out there who are much better at that sort of thing. Also, I was/am more of a lookie-loo than anything else, so I can just share with you what I saw in about 45 minutes of touring around.

I hope you like pink blossoms, because I found some more – real ones this time – cherry blossoms!
Over at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the blossoms are beginning to put on the glorious show of the pink blooms. Hooray! They are just in the beginning stages.

I went down to The Vancouver Art Gallery today for the MukMuk rally (more on that next) but was terribly distracted by some guys in red shirts bouncing on a trampoline. Someone said they were the Olympic trampoline team, but I didn’t see anything identifying them officially. But who cares? They were awesome. Here’s some more trampolining shots…

Everywhere you turn around Vancouver these days there’s something new to see. See what they did to the Vancouver Art Gallery? They turned it into Cathy Mechanic’s mom’s couch. That was her quote, not mine. But I think it looks awesome.
According to Art Daily, this is part of the Cultural Olympiad in the city – showcasing various art pieces during the Vancouver 2010 Games.
And just up the street from the Vancouver Art Gallery, a little shanty town has popped up, right next to the fanciest building in Vancouver, The Shangri-La.
