Spring is happening a bit earlier than I ever expected. At least, it sure feels like spring. The sun has been up before 8 am this week and then it’s been sunny. Chilly, but sunny! It looks like it’s going to last another day, but just in case it didn’t, I pried myself from my desk, hopped the Canada Line to Yaletown and hoped to find some little seedlings sprouting. I didn’t find any, but I did find this mangy, pink, flower, though.

Last night I took my boiled oranges cake to my buddy, Wheezy’s, place in Yaletown and enjoyed a good old-fashioned potluck. Not one of us brought salad or veggies, so my cake served as a serving of fruit for the meal.
We enjoyed delicious scalloped potatoes – Wheezy does them up right, some Chinese food, pot stickers and ham.
Cake review: Very marmalade-y, very rich & dense, very moist (ew. That’s an awful word). However, I did spread a thick coating of Nutella on the top and that cut that bitter, orange peel taste down to a manageable level. Also, a little goes a long way – you only need a little piece and it’s very filling.

With my heart in my pocket, I traveled back to Yaletown to see what was going on at the Roadhouse – the Yaletown Community Centre. They had transformed the huge glass room that holds the oldy-time black train into an LED lantern for Illuminate.
There were tables set up with stations for a quick craft – tiny LED lights, 1 round battery and a teensy magnet. You tape them all together and you get a tiny, cool, light in your hand. I had three of those in my hand in the photo above.
Next up? Throw them at the train!!

Carol: Hey Frank! I heard the old fashioned Nativity Scene is on display at the Cathedral on Dunsmuir. I think I’ll head over there if you don’t need any help for the next few hours. Okay?
Frank: No problem. I’ve got the Christmas pudding steaming, I’ve got a cake baking and I’m standing on the dip I’m taking to a party tonight. It’s all covered! But don’t stay out too long. It’s Christmas Eve tomorrow! We’ve got stuff to do.

Carol: Got it Frank! I’ll be back soon to help!
I hopped in the car to see the Nativity Scene. I took my tripod and tried not to get in the way. The church was mostly empty, so my timing was good (3:15 on a weekday afternoon).
