Our adventure today started out downtown (*Yawn* for me, I’m down there all the time) when Mike suggested we go out on the Canada Line to the Airport as he hadn’t been there on the train yet. We hopped on the train (where we spotted the “Way Out” signs – that’s what it says at each exit.) and about half way there, Mike asked me, “What’s the name of that mall you like out in Richmond?” Trying not to get too excited, I said, “Oh, you mean, Aberdeen Mall?” and he said, “Yes. Why don’t we go there?” SWOONY! Suddenly our adventure was turning into hardcore fun. And this is perfect because Cynthia, her mom, Denise (I’m just assuming Denise will be into coming with us) and I have a date to go out to Aberdeen after Thanksgiving next month on the train. So I’ll totally know where I’m taking them.
Anyway, we got to Aberdeen and I didn’t take any more photos. I had my long lens with me. I didn’t think to bring my shorter lens. Boo! Next time, I’ll bring a shorter lens because we ended up having a fun dim sum lunch at a place called Hot Pot One. It’s one of the sit down restaurants in the mall. As we were “reading” the menu – there was not much English on there, but still, we tried. One of the people that worked there saw us trying to sort it out and he said, “We serve tea and dim sum.” I turned to Mike and said, “Let me take care of this.” and we followed the man into the restaurant. They served us some hot water and loose leaf tea – I selected the dragon green tea – in a fancy tea making contraption and a menu that was mostly in Chinese, but I didn’t know how to order. So, it turns out I was no help to Mike at all. Thankfully another lovely person in the restaurant taught us how to make the tea – by rinsing out the first batch of tea to get the dust off the leaves. Then he showed us how to use the tea making machine. When Mike ordered 2 of everything, the same man came back to us before the order was put through to let us know we had actually ordered enough food for 4 or 5 people. Talk about damage control.
We had yummy prawn spring rolls, beef dumplings, pork buns and some rice, olives and taro root. It was all very good. The staff were patient with us and even complemented Mike on his monkey feet shoes. We’ll be back there for sure. and the next time anyone comes for a visit, we will be taking you there for sure. Andrea, do you like Dim Sum? You have got to try it. I think even my sister would like some of these things. And she’s a tough sell.
