I came across the biggest Canadian Flag I’ve ever seen in my life today on my lunch hour while running errands – one of which was getting my phone fixed. Since it was broken, I thought maybe it needed a new battery. Or, it just needed to be turned on. Like the guy at the Fido counter did in a nanosecond. Very nice. I felt like a genius.
This great big flag is covering the on-going and, possibly, never-ending construction on this building. It used to be a fancy hotel (it’s right across the street from the Vancouver Art Gallery). I went there for a fundraiser dinner once. They had the waiters come by with red towels draped over their arms while they served us chicken and wild rice. I even got to see one of the rooms – small, European style and boutique-y – with patterned wall paper. Very nice! And now the old building is being converted to condos. The amount of condos in our city is pretty amazing at this point. Astounding, really.
Mike and I have BIG plans this weekend. Tomorrow it’s off to Aberdeen with our buddies from Mission and then on Sunday, it’s pumpkin carving time. Bec has invited us to her home so we can teach her and some others the technique of carving pumpkins. I think we’ll show them a traditional style and then work up to some fancier pumpkin carving. Oh, and someone bought a Superman costume. And she’s very proud of her first ever Halloween costume, too. If we’re lucky, we’ll see it at the pumpkin carving party.
